Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata
End of Watch: April 18, 2011
Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a call of shots fired in a local neighborhood on April 18, 2011, around 11:18 p.m. On arrival, the first responding officer confronted a man on a porch asking if he heard any gun shots. The man opened fire on the officer who returned fire as the man fled to the back area of the house. The first responding officer notified other responding officers of the man's direction of travel. The man came upon PSO Eric Zapata and opened fire striking PSO Zapata. A few moments later, the man shot and killed himself.
Its been a very difficult week for PSO Eric Zapata's family, friends and colleagues. Please keep them in your prayers as they process and grieve the loss of Eric.
Our prayers have been and continue to be, that God will reach down in His everlasting love and give each family member, friend and colleague the peace and comfort only He can give. John 14:27, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you . I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Matthew 5:4, Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. May God strengthen each one through His Word!!!

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 --
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. Psalm 28: 7
